Whitehorse (Yukon), March 15, 2010 – Residents and businesses in the Yukon will benefit from funding to the Partnering for Success Initiative, a project that fosters economic growth and business opportunities in the region. This investment is made possible through Canada’s Economic Action Plan .
Senator Daniel Lang made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor).
CanNor will provide a total of $144,600 to the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce in support of the collaborative Partnering for Success initiative.
“Partnering for Success harnesses the valuable knowledge of Yukon’s growing business community, together with its First Nations, community and government counterparts,” said Senator Lang. “The exchange of ideas between these partners will serve to enhance and identify ways to grow the Yukon economy as a whole.”
“The Partnering for Success Economic Summit is an opportunity for Yukon business and community representatives to identify and prioritize economic opportunities and challenges in their territory,” said the honourable Leon Aglukkaq, Minister Responsible for the North and Minister of Health. “Our Government is pleased to support this and other activities which serve to increase the economic prosperity in the North.”
“Partnering for Success is a business and industry driven initiative created to stimulate growth in Yukon’s economy,” said Rick Karp, President of the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce. “Ongoing consultation and dialogue will solicit business-driven recommendations that can be translated into action by the economic sectors and governments.”

This federal investment was made possible through CanNor’s Strategic Investments in Northern Economic Development (SINED) Program. This program focuses on long-term economic growth, economic diversification and capacity building in the three territories.
SINED is part of a suite of economic development programs that fall under the mandate of CanNor. CanNor is responsible for coordinating and delivering federal economic development activities in the territories, and for policy, research and advocacy
